Meet Our School Dogs: Storm and Bambi 🐾

We are delighted to introduce Storm and Bambi, our much-loved school dogs, who play an important role in promoting positive wellbeing through the Dog Mentor Programme.

Storm and Bambi are calm, friendly and specially trained to work with children in a school environment. Their presence helps to create a nurturing, supportive atmosphere where pupils feel safe, relaxed and ready to learn.

The Dog Mentor Programme

The Dog Mentor Programme is designed to support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, confidence and mental health. Working alongside trained staff, Storm and Bambi provide comfort, encouragement and companionship, particularly for pupils who may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed or lacking in confidence.

Research shows that interaction with dogs can:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety

  • Improve mood and emotional regulation

  • Support social skills and communication

  • Encourage positive behaviour and engagement

  • Boost self-esteem and confidence

How Storm and Bambi Support Our Pupils

Storm and Bambi work with pupils in a variety of carefully planned ways, including:

  • One-to-one or small group wellbeing sessions

  • Reading support, where pupils read aloud to a calm, non-judgemental listener

  • Support during transition times or challenging moments

  • Promoting kindness, empathy and responsibility

All interactions are closely supervised and tailored to meet individual needs.

Safety, Welfare and Care

The wellbeing of both our pupils and our dogs is extremely important to us. Storm and Bambi:

  • Are fully trained and temperament-assessed

  • Are regularly health-checked and insured

  • Have clear routines, rest times and quiet spaces

  • Only work with pupils who have parental consent

Risk assessments and hygiene procedures are firmly in place, and participation is always optional.

A Positive Addition to Our School Community

Storm and Bambi have already become valued members of our school community. Their gentle presence brings smiles, calmness and reassurance, helping to support our commitment to positive mental health and wellbeing for every child.
